August 2020 Calendar & Astrology

As is well known, the Gregorian Calendar is a solar calendar that depends on the movements of the Sun. On the flip side is the Hindu Panchang which depends on the drifts of both luminary planets, Sun and Moon, as it is a lunisolar calendar. The Gregorian month of August coincides with the Hindu months of Shravan and Bhadrapada. This year too, the month will begin on a Saturday, which will be the Trayodashi (thirteenth day) of the Shukla Paksha of Shravan month. It will then come to an end on the Trayodashi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month.

The table of August 2020 Calendar that we have given above mentions all significant holidays as per the Gregorian Calendar, as well as many State 2020 Holidays. However, in addition to these, the Hindu Panchang also includes several fasts and feasts. We will also take a glance at these ahead. The fasts begin with the beginning of the month, as the Pradosh Vrat of Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha are falling on 1 August and 16 August, and an additional Pradosh Vrat (Shukla Paksha) is also falling on 30 August. On the day of Raksha Bandhan, 3 August, devotees will fast for the Shravan Purnima, while on 6 August women all around will celebrate Kajari Teej. Sankashti Chaturthi is falling on 7 August this month, while the Masik Shivratri is on 17 August. The two Ekadashis occurring in this August 202 Calendar will be, Aja Ekadashi on 15 August and Parsva Ekadashi on 29 August. The Bhadrapada Amavasya will be on 19 August, Hartalika Teej on 21 August, and Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated throughout India on 22 September. The Sun will also make its transit in the zodiac sign Leo on 16 August, making the day Simha Sankranti.

Let us now take a gander at these festivals and fasts mentioned in the August 2020 Calendar.
