Kartik Purnima in 2017 is on 04 November. Kartik is the month dedicated to divinity. Throughout the whole year, it is the time when Earth becomes a sacred place and people of India beautifully welcome the arrival of Almighty on Earth. Purnima (full moon night) of every month in India is considered as the most auspicious time of the month. Kartik Purnima 2017 is going to be commemorated on 04th of November, Saturday. Every year, Kartik Poornima falls in the Shukla Paksha of Kartika month. At some places, Kartika purnima is also known as Tripuri Purnima as well as Ganga Snan. Logic behind the name ‘Tripuri Purnima’ is the belief that Lord Shiva assassinated the demon Tripuri on this day. In Hindu mythology, Kartika Poornima has immense value for fetching blessings from the Almighty. On the day of Kartik Purnima, there is a tradition of taking bath in the river Ganga and donating earthen lamps. That is why Kartika Purnima is also known as Ganga Snan. There is a belief that the one who worships Kartik Purnima acquires Kama, Artha, Dharma and Moksha (salvation).

In addition to Lord Shiva, this day is dedicated to Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Angira and Lord Sun. It is believed that the person who does charity, donation and takes bath at river bank or any other water body with devotion becomes the part of God’s blessed people. Traditionally, Kartik Purnima is celebrated very beautifully by lighting lamps on intersections, under Pipal trees, temples or other allied places. People recite the story of Shri Satya-Narayana on this day. There is another belief associated with this festival that is the spiritual practice that begins from this day offers higher positive results than starting from any other day.

Significance of Kartika Purnima Snan

In India, there is a common tradition of taking bath at a holy river. However, on certain days, this bath offers better results. And, these certain days are the most auspicious days of the year. That is why on the day of Kartik Purnima, you can find a huge crowd on the banks of holy rivers, especially Ganga as well as Yamuna. Glory of taking bath on the day of Kartik Purnima has also been described by the holy Vedas as well as Puranas. If a river is not possible, then taking bath at any other water body is considered auspicious, especially while remembering the name Lord Vishnu. It is believed that people who do such deeds get blessings from the Almighty.

Another belief states that taking bath in a sacred river by following proper religious procedures helps the devotee attain salvation at the end. Other than spiritual beliefs, month of Kartik has some scientific boons too. Month of Kartik falls at the time of seasonal change. And, if a person takes shower early in the morning during this month, this helps him to adjust with the upcoming season easily and fills his body with immense energy throughout the whole day. This helps in adjusting our body’s immunity to adjust with change in season.

Glory of Kartik Purnima Puja

First thing that is quite famous for this day is that donating anything on Kartik Purnima is equivalent to 100 Ashwamedha Yagyas. As per the beliefs of Hindus, charity or donation on this day leads the individual toward the way of salvation. Apart from these, such pious deeds bring the devotee closer to Lord Shiva and get blessings of good health as well as wealth.

For Kartik Snan, generally Ganga and Yamuna rivers are considered. However, there are many other pious rivers like Saraswati, Narmada, Godavari, Kurukshetra, Ayodhya, Kashi and many more. As per Hindu Shastras, Lord Vishnu goes to sleep on this day. Month of Kartik starts when Sun comes in Libra. It is said that fasting in Kartik is the more defined way for heading toward salvation.
