Navratri 2016 begins on October 1 and it will end on October 10. Navratri, the festival of nine nights and is dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine forms. The word Navaratri literally means nine nights in Sanskrit; Nava meaning Nine and Ratri meaning nights. The nine days have great religious significance as Goddess Durga, the divine mother, had destroyed the evil force during this period.

The nine day Navaratri festival is held twice a year, once in the month of Chaitra (Mar-Apr) as Rama Navratri, and then in Aswayuja (Sept-Oct) as Duga or Sharad Navaratri. It's said that worshipping in Navartra's brings material and spiritual welfare.

People offer different things to Goddess Durga during the nine day Rituals of Navratri. However, hindu scriptures have described the different thing that should be offered during the nine days. These offerings should be later distributed among the poor and the needy.It is believed that if a devotee offers these things with utmost devotion then all his wishes will come true.

Day One of Navratri

The first day ritual of Navratri includes, offering ghee on Pratipad will help the devotee get rid of any kind of disease or ailment and make him/her healthy.

Day Two of Navratri

The second day ritual of Navratri includes, offering sugar on Dwitiya. It is believed that by doing this Goddess Durga blesses the devotee with long life.

Day Three of Navratri

The third day ritual of Navratri includes, offering milk on Tritya will help the devotee get rid of all miseries of life.

Day Four of Navratri

The fourth day ritual of Navratri includes, offering Malpua on Chaturthi helps the devotee resolve all problems.

Day Five of Navratri

The fifth day ritual of Navratri includes, offering bananas on Panchami ensures mental development.

Day Six of Navratri

The sixth day ritual of Navratri includes, offering honey helps in the personality development of the devotee.

Day Seven of Navratri

The seventh day ritual of Navratri includes, offering items made of jaggery on Saptami. This will ward off poverty from the house.

Day Eight of Navratri

The eighth day ritual of Navratri includes offering coconut .If one offers this on Ashtami one gets prosperity.

Day Nine of Navratri

The ninth day ritual of Navratri includes, offering grains on Navami ensures that the devotee will get a place in heaven.
