Surya Grahan (Solar Eclipse) on 15 January 2010

A partial solar eclipse, Surya Grahan, will be visible in India on Friday, January 15, 2010. It will be Magha month Krishna Paksha Amavasya according to Hindu calendar. According to NASA, the surya grahan on 2010 January 15 is an Annular Eclipse. It will be visible as an annular solar eclipse mostly from some of the southern most cities of India. For north Indian cities, it will be visible as partial eclipse (aanshik surya graham) only. Some of the places in India where it will be seen as annular solar eclipses are Trivandrum, Chennai, Madurai, Kanyakumari, and Tiruchirapalli etc.

 

The annular phase runs from 10.44am (IST), when the eclipse begins in the Central African Republic to the end of the eclipse on the Chinese Yellow Sea coast at 14.29pm (IST). The maximum duration would reach 11 minutes 08 seconds over the Indian Ocean, thus making it the longest annular eclipse.

 

The eclipse will be Makar Rashi (Capricorn Sign) and Uttara Shadha Nakshatra. Makar Rashi is owned by Saturn and Uttara Shadha Nakshatra is owned by Sun in Vedic astrology. So, Sun seems to be afflicted by being in Saturn’s sign, in conjunction with Rahu and aspected by Mars. Hence Leo native will be affected most by this Surya Grahan.
