Karnavedha is a Sanskrit word in which Karna means ear and Ved means to pierce. Thus Karnavedha Sanskar means the ear piercing ceremony. It is one of the most important Sanskars among the 16 Sanskars of Sanatan Dharma, which is traditionally performed in the form of piercing the ears of children.   • This Sanskar is done in the sixth or seventh month. 
  • If for some reason it is not done in the infancy of the child, then it can be done till the age of three or five years. 
  • Magh, Phalgun, Vaishakh and Shravan months are considered very auspicious for ear piercing. 
  • Shravan, Pushya, Ashwini, Mrigasira, Rohini, Hasta, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati, Abhijeet are the Nakshatras considered best for ear piercing. 
  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are considered more auspicious days.
  • Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi and Trayodashi are the best dates for Karnavedha.
