2026 Annaprashan Muhurat: Do's And Don'ts 

Things To Do During Annaprashan 

  • Annaprashan should be done between the age of 6 months to 1 year of the baby.
  • For boys, it is often considered auspicious to do it in the 6th or 8th month and for girls, it is considered auspicious in the 5th or 7th month.
  • Take the auspicious date, day, Nakshatra and ascendant from an experienced Pandit or astrologer and decide the Muhurta.
  • Ganesha Puja, Havan and special chanting of Mantras are done in Annaprashan Sanskar.
  • The first bite of food is given to the baby only after worshipping him.
  • Keep the house clean and dress the child in clean clothes.
  • The utensils and ingredients used for cooking should be completely pure and fresh.
  • Give light and nutritious food.
  • The first bite is usually rice pudding, plain Bhaat, Dalia, or Ghee-rice.
  • Honey, Ghee, and cow's milk are also traditionally used (but a doctor's advice is a must).
  • Get the baby blessed by the grandparents and other elders of the family. 

Things Not To Do During Annaprashan

  • It is forbidden to perform Annaprashan during inauspicious time, eclipse or Pitru Paksha.
  • The baby is small, so he should be protected from crowd and noise.
  • The first meal should be light, easily digestible and made of fresh ingredients.
  • Before giving honey, cow milk or other things to the baby, consult a doctor.
  • After Annaprashan, observe the child carefully for some time to see if there is any allergy or reaction.
