His atrocities rose to such a level that it became almost impossible to control him. Things took a drastic turn when he took the step of kidnapping 16000 wives of certain Gods. Having had it enough, everyone approached Lord Krishna for help. He assured that help will be on its way shortly. Readers should know that the demon Narkasur was cursed that he would face his death in the hands of a woman. Krishna’s sharp intellect gave him the idea of taking his wife along in the expedition. It was the 14th day or Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha, when Lord Krishna put an end to Narkasur and his atrocities. Thus, people light diya and lamps on this day to celebrate the prevalence of light over darkness and also Narkasur’s death.

Story of King Baali

Another Legend has it that Lord Krishna’s Vaman incarnation appeared in front of demon King Lord Bali, who was much known for his generous nature and asked him for three steps of land. King Bali quickly agreed to the pleas of Lord Krishna who went on to cover the whole earth in its two Steps. As a result, there was no space left for the third step. Having given his word, Bali requested to sacrifice himself so as to please the Lord and place the las step on his head. Please with Bali, Lord vamana asked Bali to demand a boon. He requested that every year, the thirteenth Tithi until Amavasya will be governed by him. At the same time he also asked that, those who observe and celebrate Diwali under my rule and light lamps during the Chaturdashi will be granted freedom from the tortures of hell. Lord vamana agreed to his request and provided him with the boon. Ever since then, the festival of Narak Chaturdashi has gained prominence among the followers of Hindu culture and religion.

Legend of Hanuman

Bajrang Bali, Lord Hanuman is known to all. He happened to be the dearest worshippers of lord Rama. When he was growing up, he thought of the Sun as a fruit and gobbled it up, as a result of which darkness prevailed all over the earth. On the Kali Chaudas date, all the Gods and DemiGods gathered in one place and asked Hanuman to let go of the Sun. Bajrang Bali did not listen to any of their pleas, which of Lord Indra had to take the final step, He created a thunderbolt and attacked Lord Hanuman with it, and ultimately, the Sun came out.   • Wake up early in the morning and eulogize your Isht Devta.
  • Taking a holy bath on this day has a great amount of significance. Thus, apply sesame seed oil all over your body while taking a bath.
  • Before Narak Chaturdashi 2019 arrives, fill up some water in a vessel up to its brim during a dark lunar fortnight falling on the month of Kartika. Then on the Kali Chaudas date, mix the water stored in the vessel with your bathing water.
  • The bath taken will help you to eradicate fears regarding damnation which have taken house in your mind.
  • Afterwards, take some Apamarga leaves and circumambulate them around your head three times.
  • Apply Kajal or Kohl in your eyes to keep negative energies and spirits at bay.
