To have a child, he performed many Pujas and several rituals like charities, good deeds and did many Yagnas and sacrifices, but all in vain. Then he went on to search Sage Lomash.

Sage Lomash was the one who was born from the hair of Lord Brahma. He told the king that he committed a sin in his previous birth; hence, he is childless in his current birth. In his previous birth, he was a merchant. One day when he went to sell goods and felt thirsty. He saw a cow and her calf drinking water from a lake. He drove that cow and the calf and drank the water himself. Thus, he committed the sin of ceasing the cow and her newborn calf to drink water. Due to this, reason he became childless in his present birth.

Sage Lomash asked king Mahajit to observe a fast on Pavitra Ekadashi. The king agreed and he alongwith his wife kept Pavitra Ekadashi fast. Within the due time, he got blessed by a healthy son. His son became a successful and victorious ruler. Thus, this story rightly explains the benefits and significance of Pavitra Ekadashi Vrat.
