International Fixed Calendar

It is a perennial calendar, which divides the month into 13 months of 28 days. It is also known as the 13 Month Calendar or Equal Month Calendar. This type of calendar has not been officially adopted by any country.

National Calendar

When we talk about India, it is a united nation with a spectrum of religions and customs, all existing in peace like a rainbow. The Indian National Calendar, which is used all over the country is also known by the name 'Shalivahana Shaka Calendar’. It's structure is based on the Gregorian Calendar.

Regional Calendar

The vast nation of India has a unique blend of different religions and regions. While India is one strong nation, all parts of which resonate with each other, there are some special attributes that are region specific and enrich the cultural diversity of this country. These are reflected by different customs and cultures in different parts of the country. Some regions celebrate one occasion, while the others celebrate another occasion. This is when Regional Calendars are required.

Calendar Systems

Different calendars are based on different systems. The most common systems that are generally used in calendars are:

Solar Calendar

One of the most common calendars used are the Solar Calendars. They are based on the Solar Days. Each solar day marks a new date in the calendar. The day can be measured from one sunrise to the next sunrise. The Persian Calendar is an example of Solar Calendar.

Lunar Calendar

Lunar Calendars are based on lunar days. The total period during which the Moon completes one revolution around the Earth marks one month in the lunar calendar. Each date is according to the changing phases of the Moon. The Islamic Calendar is an example of Lunar Calendar.

Lunisolar Calendar

The Lunisolar Calendar is based on the combination of both the previously mentioned calendars, i.e. Lunar Calendar and Solar Calendar. Their date indicates the moon phases in accordance with the time of the solar year. Lunisolar calendars are special type of calendars in which extra months can be added periodically. The Hindu Calendar is an example of Lunisolar Calendar.

Types of Calendars

In a country like India, people of different religions and communities live in harmony. All of these people have different cultures and different occasions of celebrations. Gregorian Calendar 2019

It is the most popular type of calendar that is extensively used all over the world. This calendar has been internationally recognised. It is based in the Julian Calendar. It has been divided into two eras- BC which reference to the time Before Christ and AD which means Anno Domini.

The Gregorian Calendar has a 364 day long year and adds an extra day in every fourth year. Such a fourth year is known as leap year. There are total 12 months in the Gregorian Calendar which have 30 or 31 days (exception being February which has 28 days in general and 29 days during a leap year). The calendar has seven days in a week and each month comprises of roughly four weeks.

Indian Calendar 2019

India is a multicultural country where a variety of festivals are celebrated across the nation. Because there are people of so many castes and creeds, it is not possible to remember the date of each and every festival as per all the religions. To make it easier for us, all the major festivals of all the religions like Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Jain, etc. are compiled in one single calendar along with the national festivals of the country. Hindu Calendar 2019

The Hindu calendar is a Lunisolar Calendar that is used to know the dates, days and events according to Hinduism. There are a number of festivals and festivities that make Hinduism such a joyful religion. A Hindu Calendar enlists all the important events in Hinduism that one needs to know.

A Hindu Calendar typically consists of 12 months known as Chaitra, Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Ashadh, Shravan, Bhadrapada, Ashwin, Kartika, Mrigashira, Paush, Magha, and Phalguni. There are 7 days in the week, which are Ravivar (Sunday), Somvar (Monday), Mangalvar (Tuesday), Budhwar (Wednesday), Guruwar (Thursday), Shukrawar (Friday) and Shanivar (Saturday).

Islamic Calendar 2019

The Islamic Calendar is the calendar used by Muslims and lists the important Islamic events and festivals. It is a lunar calendar in which a month begins with a new moon day. There are a total number of 12 months in the Islamic Calendar which last for about 29 or 30 days as per the phases of the Moon. The year comprises of 354 or 355 days. The month of Muharram marks the beginning of a new year in the Islamic Calendar. The Islamic Calendar is also known as Hijri Calendar.

Jain Calendar 2019

Jain Calendar enlists all the major events and festivals of the Jain people. The Jain Calendar is a lunar calendar, which comprises of 12 months in a year. The Jain Calendar begins with the Hindu festival of Diwali. The dates vary each year because of the position of the celestial bodies. The Jain Calendar helps the Jains to get ready for the important occasions and festivities that are ahead in the Jain year for them.

Telugu Calendar 2019

The Telugu calendar is used by the Telugu people. It helps to know the masam (month), Tithi (date) and Nakshatra (constellation). The Tamil Calendar helps the people to get ready for the major events in the year 2019 so that they can spend the special moments happily with their loved ones.

Tamil Calendar 2019
