The Legend Behind Kamada Ekadashi

In ancient times, a king named Pundarik used to rule in Bhogipur Nagar. His kingdom was densely populated with Kinnars and Gandharvas who were very skilled in singing and recital.

One day, Lalit was singing in the palace of Pundarik. Suddenly he started missing his beloved and lost his concentration. A competitor of Lalit named Karkat was also sitting in the court. He caught the blunder of Lalit and complained to the king.

Hearing this, the king got very angry. He cursed Lalit of being by virtue of which he turned into a demon. Now Lalit was a demon and he began to wander around the palace. Seeing this, his wife Lalita became very sad and she also began to wonder with him.

She got very worried about the condition of her husband and tried to find out the solution of her husband's pathetic condition.

One day, she approached a Rishmuke Rishi who used to stay on Vidhaya parvat. She asked the Rishi the solution of her husband's curse. The Rishi advised her Ekadashi fast and its procedure. Lalita came back and observed fast of Kamada Ekadashi with her husband. Due to the influence of the fast, her husband became free from curse and got back in his normal form.
