Myriad beliefs are associated to beautiful day of Raksha Bandhan. It is believed that sister Yamuna-the Pious River of India tied a sacred thread on wrist of her brother Yama-the Lord of Death. This sacred thread called Rakhi in Hindi was for well-being and longevity of his brother. Observing this, Lord Yama was profoundly happy and announced that people will celebrate this day as Raksha Bandhan. When Yamuna tied rakhi on wrist of her brother Yama, the day was Shravan Purnima. And this is the reason that we celebrated Raksha Bandhan on each year of Full moon day of Hindu month Sawan.

Another belief is attached with Lord Indra and Indrani. Indrani was the queen of Lord Indra. When Indra was in war with demons, Rishi Brihaspati suggested Indra to tie a sacred knot on his wrist. And thus protection of husband Indra, Indrani tied a sacred knot on his wrist. It helped Lord Indra and other deities to achieve victory in war.
