Eclipse In 2022

An eclipse is an astronomical event in which when another planet or body (lunar) comes in between two planets and when this happens an eclipse is believed to have occurred. In general terms, eclipses occur in 2 ways and they are:- a full eclipse and partial eclipse. A complete eclipse occurs when the Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, and the sunlight is completely blocked from Earth due to the Moon. This astronomical event is known as a full eclipse. At the same time, a partial eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and moon come in a straight line, but the Moon does not prevent sunlight from reaching the earth. This condition is called a partial eclipse.

Now, an Eclipse is extremely important from a both scientific and astrological point of view. We all know that when planets change their positions, they have a profound impact on the lives of all of us. Before knowing more about the eclipse, it is important for us to know what kind of eclipse it is, thereby stating if it is full or partial. There are usually two types of eclipses, the first solar eclipse and the second lunar eclipse.

  1. Solar Eclipse in 2022

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Sun and the Earth, due to which the Moon stops some or all of the Sun's light from reaching the Earth and spreads the shadow on the Earth at that time. This phenomenon is called a solar eclipse. For your information, we should let you know that this event always takes place on Amavasya or New Moon. The Solar Eclipse can be seen only from a relatively small part of the Earth. If we talk about the period, the duration of the Solar Eclipse is only a few minutes due to the lack of the shadow of the Moon. Most people are inclined to see this astronomical event. Solar eclipse should never be seen with one’s naked eye, it is important to have special protection to view it. There are three types of solar eclipses and they are - full solar eclipse, partial solar eclipse and annular eclipse.

  1. Lunar Eclipse in 2022

A lunar eclipse is said to be the astronomical event that occurs when the Moon orbits the Earth and comes back into its shadow just behind the Earth. This situation arises only when the Sun, Earth and the Moon fall in a straight line in this order. According to the nomenclature of Science, this phenomenon is called Lunar Eclipse. The Lunar Eclipse always occurs on the Full Moon day. The Lunar Eclipse can be easily seen from any part of the Earth. If we talk about the duration then the duration of the lunar eclipse then lasts for a few hours. People who wish to see the lunar eclipse can also see it with their naked eyes.

Mythological Legends Associated With Eclipse

In the mythological texts of Hinduism, it is mandatory to find a legend or myth related to every particular day. According to the highly prevalent mythology of eclipses present in the scriptures, eclipses are believed to be associated with Rahu and Ketu, also known as the shadow planets. According to this legend, when the gods and demons/Asuras were churning the ocean together, they received a vase filled with nectar from the sea. To get this nectar-filled vase, a fierce battle took place between the Asuras and the Gods. In this war, the Asuras won and they took the urn of nectar with them to Hades. The gods knew that if the asuras had drunk the nectar then there would be an imbalance in the entire creation, so Lord Vishnu took the form of the very beautiful Apsara "Mohini" and took the urn of the nectar from the Asuras, who fell for his charms.

After this, when Lord Vishnu was getting the nectar to the Gods in the form of Mohini, a demon named Rahu very well understood the trick of Lord Vishnu and with great ingenuity, he stood in disguise to drink the nectar in the group of gods. When his turn came, Mohini reached Rahu with a cup of nectar, the Sun and Moon God recognized her. But by then Rahu had drunk a few drops of nectar. As soon as the truth was known, Lord Vishnu severed Rahu's head with his Sudarshan Chakra. But Rahu became immortal due to drinking the nectar. Due to this, he survived despite having two severed pieces of his body. Rahu and the torso to his head came to be known as Ketu. It is believed that since then Rahu and Ketu have been despising Sun and Chandra Dev and to avenge their same enmity with them, Rahu-Ketu covers the Sun and the Moon from time to time and it is known as the eclipse of the particular planets.
