Both the sides, had a vigorous fight for the immortal nectar. The battle between the two, continued for twelve continuous days and nights which was equivalent to 12 years of humans. At last, the gods won the battle and took over Amrit.

However, while the gods and the demons were fighting in the sky, few drops of Amrit fell down at some places on earth. These places were Ujjain, Naasik, Allahabad (Prayaga) and Haridwar. Since then, at these four places, the Kumbh Mela is organized. People from all over the world gather at these places to take the holy bath, every year. Places Of Kumbha Mela

Kumbh Mela is said to be celebrated at a rotation of every three years. Kumbha Mela is held at four places only, that are named below.

  2. Ujjain
  3. Allahabad (Prayaga)
  4. Haridwar

Types Of Kumbh Mela

  1. Kumbh Mela: It is held at any of the four places, that are mentioned above. This year Kumbh Mela in 2015 will be held at Nasik.
  2. Ardha Kumbh Mela: It is held at Prayaga (Allahabad) and Haridwar. This Kumbha Mela is organized at the duration of every 6 years.
