The World Of Palmistry

Leaving the jargon aside for a while, let us try to define 'what is Palmistry'. Palmistry can be described as the art and science of foretelling the future and discovering oneself through a thorough examination of the palm.

Palmistry - also known as Chiromancy - is a popular practice among various cultures all over the world. A palm reading usually involves analyzing the shape and texture of hands, the formation of fingers, lines and markings on the palm and certain mounts on the palm. Through a study of these features, a good palmist will be able to describe clear facts regarding your past, present, character, career, marriage, impending dangers and much more.

History of Palmistry

According to historians the science of palmistry originated in India. The ancient scripts in the Puranas state that the sage Narada was one of the first practitioners of this interesting art. Several monuments erected during the prehistoric times of the Aryan civilization bear evidence that the people of this period were knowledgeable of palmistry and often practiced it.

The practice of palmistry was propagated by Hindu sages like Gautama, Agastya, Kashyapa and Atri. In fact, palmistry was studied in such great depth that Maharshi Valmiki went on to compose a writing that is now known as 'The Teachings of Valmiki Maharshi on Male Palmistry'.

From India, the knowledge of palmistry slowly spread to Tibet, China, Persia, Egypt and to some countries in Europe. Studies show that most ancient communities like the Sumerians, Tibetans, Hebrews, Babylonians, Egyptians and Persians were greatly interested in the study and practice of palmistry. As early as 3000 BC, the emperor of China sealed the official documents with his thumbprint.

Palmistry was well-received in the European countries too. The Greeks are credited with introducing palmistry to Europe. Anaxagoras was one of the most famous Greek practitioners of palmistry. Then, there came a long line of renowned personalities like Aristotle, Hippocrates and Alexander the Great who popularized the laws and practice of palmistry. While Aristotle unearthed a treatise on palmistry on an altar of God Hermes, Hippocrates sought to use palmistry to aid his clinical procedures. Perhaps Julius Caesar, who judged his men based on palmistry, was one of the most ardent palmistry-believers in history. In recent times, Cheiro - called the 'Father of Palmistry' - composed several, renowned books on palmistry.

Writers like Paracelsus and Fludd enhanced the respectability of palmistry through their well-known writings. The connection between palmistry and personality was made in the 19th century by Dr Carl Carus - Chief Physician to the King of Saxony. From 1901, Scotland Yard began to adopt the method of fingerprinting for case investigations and identification of criminals. Rapid advances in psychology, forensics and genetics have further enhanced the significance of palmistry even in this modern age.

How Does Palmistry Work?

Most people associate palmistry with the concept of predicting the future. In reality, such a widespread notion stems from an inadequate awareness of palmistry. By studying the lines and markings on your palm, an established palmist will be able to make out an obvious link between your present personality and your past experiences, behavioral patterns and notable incidents. With such an understanding of your character, the palmist will be able to guide you towards making positive decisions regarding your career, relationships, finance and your future in general.

All of us are predisposed to certain behavioral patterns as a result of certain intense experiences in our past. Just as your character continues to evolve as a result of these experiences, so does the main lines present on your palms. A close study of the markings and lines on your palms directly point towards the behavioral patterns that you may have acquired in response to your past experiences. With a clear understanding of these patterns and how that affects your life, you can definitely eliminate any negative patterns and enjoy an improved quality of life.

The Basics Of Palmistry

The most important aspect in palmistry is identifying your dominant and non-dominant hand. The dominant hand is your active hand or - to put it simply - the hand you write with. The dominant hand is believed to be a reflection of your present - your aspirations, expectations and achievements. The non-dominant hand is an indicator of your past - habits and incidents from your past and your hidden talents.

Next comes the lines and mounts in your palm. There are seven main mounts on the palm that represent the subconscious traits in your mind. These are the mounts of Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The lines on the palm may be classified into major and minor lines. The major palm lines of life, heart and head indicate your degree of subconscious awareness. The minor palm lines - of Sun, Mercury, Saturn and girdle of Venus - are the indicators of your ability to effectively harness the hidden talents and untapped energies within you.

Each line or marking on the palm reveals vital information about your character, your past, present and future. The formation of mounts and shape of fingers also speak volumes about your inherent qualities. Palmistry also involves deciphering certain symbols like a star or cross that may be present in your palm. An expert palm reader does not limit himself to simply predicting your past, present and future. The palmist will also be able to transform your life by guiding you towards a better understanding of yourself.
